What a nice site. I got the urge to look up some info on Owen
Sound, the place of my maternal grandfather's birth. He was
born in OS in 1890 but moved to the UP of Michigan as a small
child where my great-grandfather had gotten a job as the
superintendent of a copper mine. My great-great-great
grandparents were settlers of OS in the 1840's. They emigrated
to Canada from Scotland in the 1820's before making there way
to OS. I visited OS as a small child in the 1960's but have no
memory of it. I hope to visit again some day |

Where to begin? Cindy Harrison here, I hung out in Owen Sound
back in the late 60's and on thru the 70's. Love to get in touch
with my old friends and be friends again. Not sure why we lost
touch, life is too busy sometimes I guess. My daughter thinks
that's a pretty bad excuse, well so do I. I just learned about
Bruce (Flash) Cummings passing in 2010. Where are you Cindy
Cummings? My partner in crime back in the day. I'm hoping
anyone I was friends with, will read, or hear about this entry and
want to get in touch with me. Bye for now. Cindy |

Visiting this site after a while---easy to feel the nostalgia after so many years---fond memories of our stay from '51 ti '53---my dad's work at Northern Nurseries on 4th Ave. West,---OCVI, Harrison Park, Ireland's Book Store, Coats and Best books, Owen Sound Creamery, the Potato Chip Stand at the old City Hall, the Scopis Restaurant, Robert's Radio and Electric, the Waterfront, and the Loblaws Supermarket where I worked at the meat counter on Friday nights and all day Saturdays as a 'part time kid' while in Grade 11---and not to forget the progressive mayor, Eddie Sargent---who used to wave at us while driving down Main Street in his convertible Buick. Fond memories all--- |

Well ..... it has been a while since my last entry ..... another granddaughter, Paisyn Raine MacKay .... and I have retired from Westburne (formerly Ruddy Electric) where I started in O/S in 1976 ..... now working for an electrical connector manufacturer, Ilsco of Canada ..... for those who have been away for O/S for a few years you might enjoy checking out this link below (if it works) or just Google "Grey Bruce Image Archive" ..... you can also find it on Facebook and like the page and you will get amazing updates and read amazing stories of the O/S areas ..... might cost you some sleep though .....

I was born in Chatham, ON and lived in ON for 40 years. My husband and I are researching areas to retire. Presently we are in Edmonton, AB and will not retire here. I like Owen Sound even though it has been a long time since I have been there. I would like to know if retirees have retired to Owen Sound from other provinces and what their experience has been.....we are looking to leave the cold freeze weather of AB due to mobility issues and arthritis problems. |

Greetings from Ottawa. It's interesting and revealing what Google's Streetview can do. When we lived at (then) 320 4th Ave. West, the little faux brick house was the sole building on a dirt lane---and right across from (then) Northern Nurseries where my dad was the 'head guy' in the early '50's. Now 352 Beatty Ave, is just one of many fine homes in a much-developed part of the fine city of Owen Sound---of which I have many fond memories---OSCVI, Harrison Park, the waterfront, the various cinemas, radio station CFOS, and friendly shop-keepers. |

Had a family cottage on Williams Lake when I was young. Our "Treat" was going to Rockford for ice cream and shopping in the "big City" of Owen Sound. (Maybe a movie as well). Miss the fireworks and the old Owen Sound softball tourney as well. Seeing the Attack win the OHL championship brought back the good memories. |
