She has been honored by both New York City and New York State for her preservation efforts at Fort Totten and previously served as a commissioner on the New York State Northeastern Queens Nature and Historic Preserve Commission. She also served as president and executive director of the Bayside Historical Society, where she led the restoration of The Castle at Fort Totten, a national historic site, and supported the creation of a granite 9/11 memorial honoring fallen members of the U.S. Army Reserve’s 77th Infantry.
